There are two types of abilities: triggered and innate.

- Innate specials modify the pet's stats permanently. They have no command, so they only show in the datapad.
- Triggered abilities have to be commanded to active. These appear in the training window and the datapad.

Knockdown is triggered and should have appeared in both pets' training windows, if it was listed in the datapad.

Yes, ranged is innate, although it is not a part of the new specials system. It is more of an independent property like aggressive or stalker.

Honestly I don't think using the ranged command changes the AI at all currently. My pets behave the same way regardless, although a long time ago it did make a difference.
