How to change pictures to JPG or GIF

Now, I know this sounds noob(ish?) but could anyone tell me how I can change pictures to JPG or GIF so that I can upload them on the page?

You need an image editor. You can download trial versions of programs like Paint Shop Pro at download.com.

You can download irfanview which is freeware
I think it can do this (I don't use it myself)

Yes, Irfan View can switch between quite a few formats. For minor picture editing, it is a very quick and (once you learn the short cuts) easy to use tool.
