Defense value

It seems pets now have a viewable defense value in the Datapad. For every single creature I own, with the exception of my Plains Hunter (elite), the defense value is identical to the to-hit (his to-hit is 81, defense is 114). So if a creature has an updated (no longer a decimal) to-hit on the website, the defense value is probably the same. Now, I wonder if anyone knows a correlation between that value and the damage taken?
