Template help (Melee version)

Postby Nytar » Wed Aug 18, 2004 9:12 am

I am trying to simulate the best melee combatant CH. I am trying to achieve some sort of \"multi tank\" status with pets. What seems to be the best for me reight now is the following:

TKM (provides meditation/good offense+defense)
MCH (duh)
Fencer 4-0-0-0 (for melee/ranged defense)
medic 0-0-0-0 (just enough to be able to use stim-B's)
scout 4-0-4-1 (survival is for foraging pet food)
You can see this template here

Is this a realistic template? I am not sure if medic 0-0-0-0 is good enough. I could drop fencer and get more medic, but it will reduce melee/ranged defense greatly. On the other hand, I could drop medic entirely and get more fencer for extra defense. ( here ) Of course, I could pickup swordsman or pikeman and get more offense (still would like to keep meditation line though).... ( here )

To further utilize skill points, I am thinking about building this character as a wookie. This lets me use bowcaster without any certification (right?).

I would love to hear from any melee/CH folks!
Thanks in advance.

Here's a suggestion....try it out. You can become a master anything in 5 minutes on Testcenter2 server. Although testcenter2 is up for the Pub10 patch testing, you could try to log on (only 1000 at a time) and make yourself anything you want and then try it out. I've tried out carbineer, rifleman and teras kasi masters so far, along with master ch of course. I've been hitting the mid to high range mobs on dath with comp @ 85% and full buffs and seeing how quickly and easily I can kill stuff. TKM is by far the quickest way to get the job done with fencer a close second. I was very dissapointed with rifleman and carbineer as it took forever to kill most mobs. Perhaps a more skilled weapon's handler could do better, but I think I'm going try swordsmand and then decide between that, fencer or TKM.

Well I tried the \"0000\" medic route, and as a master medic now, I must say, I don't know what I was missing. Even if not to heal myself (which I do ALOT) :) , the ability to heal much more damage for my pets is priceless. For instance, I pitted my baby(lvl3) female plains tusk cat against bolle bols, and by the healing (amount AND speed) of heals, she took them down with ease. I am even giving up going all the way to master pistol just to have master medic. Might even go novice doc. Just my opinion. Like I've heard alot, just do what you enjoy in the game, and you are doing the right thing. Good luck. :)

Thank you both for quick replies.

Xanth: That's a great idea. I will try it out. It's good to hear that you did well with TKM.

Adraelden: Yeah I have a swordsman char on other server and he is a master medic also. That helps alot. I just don't know what the balance should be between defense and healing. I am wondering if having high enough defense can reduce the need for healing in most situations or not. I guess I can just try it out like Xanth said.

Thanks again!

Just downloaded Test server 2 (2 gig!) and created a wookie with

TKM
MCH
Fencer 0-0-0-0
Medic 0-0-4-0
Scout 4-0-4-1

I will see how he does later. BTW the stuff they \"issue\" there are awesome!
VibroKnuckler with 1.8 speed 150max damage is pretty fine. :)

I did something else to find out PvE effectiveness, I ran a couple of advanced searches here to see a general vulnerability of creatures against each damage type. Following is the result:

Number of creatures vulnerable to certain damage type

Kinetic: 15
Energy: 16
Blast: 82
Stun: 648 (!)
Heat: 156
Cold: 173
Electricity: 242
Acid: 237
Lightsaber: 837

Hmm does this mean fencers do great in PvE as well as in PvP? I mean they have very nice defense mod and can deal great damage using their stun baton? Damn... I guess I will have to test out fencer as well

I'm TKM/MCH with forage in scout, whichever medic branch lets you heal quickly, and novice musician (for BF). I don't heal my pets. I only heal myself, since I do most of the tanking. After a battle, if the pet(s) are still alive, I store them and get out fresh ones. By the time I recycle to the original pet, he is healed. Unless I'm fighting particularly nasty mobs, (bull rancors and screechers come to mind) this strategy can go on all day.

I haven't tried any other melee yet since I've always been pleased with TKM. :)

It takes me around 10 seconds to kill Bull Rancors as Master Rifleman. Is that forever? They're dead before they even notice me shooting them, and with buffs a lair only takes a few minutes to clear. I have yet to see a melee take down mobs faster, but maybe that's my inexperience.

why waste skillpoints on foraging when you can buy it dead cheap from artisans ? They cost like 3000 credits/crate on my server. You can use any food that you can eat yourself.

As for the best PvE class i dont think there is anyone that can beat a swordsman with a good PH and some speed skilltapes.

If it takes you a long time to kill rancors, you might need to get some lighter armor, or some better food.

I'm a TKM and i get buffed, drink 2 brandy, and lately bought some composite armor. Now it takes me around a minute to kill each rancor, because my mind doesnt regen fast enough to let me use unarmed hit 3 like i could when i had ubese armor. This also brings up another problem....My pets always get incap when fighting rancors. It takes me so long to kill the rancors, when they are attacking my pets, they do about 700 damage per hit, and adding up, 2 rancors can incap my 10k HAM pets before i can kill the rancors.

I've been getting musician buffs to make up for the extra encumbrence until i can get some more ubese, but it's a real pain to have to find a master everytime i go hunting for rancors....so i would suggest getting lighter armor, so whoever was the rifleman that took \"forever\" to kill mobs....try getting musician buffs or lighter armor or better food and drink :)

I have been testing different classes on TC2 server over the weekend. TKM does very well.

TKM template tested > here
I could take 4-5 Rancors (including bull, regular, youth) by myself (which is crazy...) when buffed with armor. It took me a good while to take out Merek lair on Endor with Merek Harvesters, Delirious Merek Avengers, Merek Cavern Creepers. Cavern Creepers shoots at me from distance and intimidate me while I am busy dealing with Merek Harvesters which have very good kinetic resistances. It was just time consuming. However, I had problem with Ancient Bull Rancor lair. They bled me and my buff did not regenerate fast enough, so I had to run a little. Over all, though, TKM kicks major butt in PvE.

Fencer template tested > here
I tried fencer also. With my skill pts restriction, I was only able to master meditation tree of TKA which lowered overall melee/ranged defense compared to my TKM template above. I was hoping that this template gives me enough \"Dodge\" so that lower defense doesn't matter much. But it did not seem to help too much. I still got hit alot. Also, without mastering brawler, fencers don't get knockdown and that lowers the damage output considerably even when I am using a stun baton.

In order to test the template thoroughly, I needed to make good pets as TC2 only gives you mounts (like 1k HAM pets). I made another character with MBE and some Ranger so that I could find good DNAs. Off I went to Endor and sampled some decent DNAs and I made a couple of lvl35 range pets with light armor 60Kinetic with Intimidation and high damage. Now I have to wait for them to grow...

Zurl: I see you are self sufficient with all that skills. Being able to reduce BF yourself is a big plus.

Atiame: True that you can buy foods off chefs. Perhaps I should get that 2 skill pts back and put it into somewhere more useful.
