Mounting Pets

I have read everything here and I still am not sure of the answer so here is my question. My son (non-CH) wants a bantha as a mount. Currently the bantha is CL 5 of 15. Now I know if he grows to CL15 my son will not be able to call him. I read that you can mount a pet at about 1/2 full grown and will not continue to grow. So does that mean I can train the bantha to mount at CL7 or 8 and he will stay that way and my son will be able to use him? Or do I need to find a BE and make him a lvl 10 bantha? :?

No, the only mount I know that stunts it's growth because it was mounted is the giant carrion spat, which stops at level 12 if mounted. I believe bantha's are a one to one trade with a CH trainer for a non-ch bantha. Have your son take the animal to any CH trainer npc and drag and drop the bantha onto him. You should (key word should) get a non-ch bantha in return. If he doesn't get a bantha, a similar but substitute creature will be returned (e.g. CUPAs will give you a Kwi in return)

Another option is that you could find a BE to make you a low level one.

Well we tried it last night. You get a lesser plains bol when you turn in a bantha. Thanks for the responses. Looks like we will be looking for a BE now.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that. I guess since there are no bantha's at or below level 10 so you can't get one in return.

Oh don't be. :) At least we know what happens now. I have a friend who is a BE but I don't know if he can make bantha's yet. Now to get him to make one of the VD-HP pets with 3k HAM. At least this way my son's pet will be able to protect him for abit also.

Get your son a rideable pet. He will have tons more fun with it. A cu pa would be a good choice as it is very fast, and small enough that it doesn't block your view when its fighting next to you like a large Bantha does.
But then again a Bantha is one of the most attractive of pets with its elaborate saddle and the dangly trappings that go with it. And both are easily made low level so a non-ch can call them. I had both before I became CH.
