pet special attacks - why cant CH's see when examining
pet special attacks - why cant CH's see when examining
i'm new to this site (been very helpful btw) and just made MCH. there is something that has bugged me about the pet specials is that as a MCH, i cannot tell what specials my pets do (by examining them) while a non CH class (ranger) can. why is this and is there anything in the works to change this? this is my first post and many apologies if this topic has been posted before.
Ranger's are the \"creature experts\" so to speakl, so thats why they know it. But I think a CH should be able to see it only after its tamed, just like attack and speed and such. I don't know if there is anything in the works to change it. But of course, you have this great site right here thats lists all the specials of every creature anyway, so its not really that important. :D
I agree
I have to agree with ya, Furball. It does seem a bit odd that as a master ch, you cannot see what specials do what. After all, if a master can't tell the minute details of thier chosen profession, why would a ranger, who only has one skill tree devoted to hunting? Oh well, what else can we do other than revert to this site? :? At least we have this site to reference (which is great, imo). :P

The way I see it (aside from game balance) is that Rangers study the physical side of creatures while Handlers study the psychological aspects.
Rangers learn about creature's habits, their movements, food, how they interact with other creatures. Basically things you learn by studying them.
Handlers on the other hand take a young creature and try to break all of their base instincts and mold them into something different from their wild kin. We might understand how our pet behaves, but it gives us very little insight into wild creatures.
There are of course some things we should probably learn with enough exposure, but mostly I think the system follows the spirit of this.

Don't put so much thought into it. This is SOE we're talking about. These are the people that for some reason gave us CHs the ability to control multiple faction pets - instead of, say, the Squad Leaders?

Of course, this is all IMO :D
Lantyssa, I see your point of view on this but I disagree. I don't think this is really a game balance issue as it doesnt really make the CH more powerful. We have this wonderful site that tells us everything we need to know anyway :)
Rangers are well known as the overall masters of the wilderness, tracking, trapping (of course skinning etc (harvesting creature resources)) and using these harvested natural resources for creating camps and such. They should have a great deal of knowledge in all aspects of things in the wild including general characteristics of the creatures out there.
But...(IMO of course) the spirit of the creature handler revolves around a profession that specializes in nothing but getting to know creatures (developing more of an inside working (mental and physical) understanding of creatures, their abilities and limits to the point of being able to tame and train them. Seems funny that CH's are the ones who are teaching the their pets specialattack1 and specialattack2 while not even having a clue what these attacks even do.
I know a CH shouldnt be able to harvest extra critters resources but they (CH's) should be able to know what attacks they are teaching their pets :)
I hope this didnt come off as being argumentative, i just wanted to give my point of view. :D
...still looking for the ever elusive \"a frenzied graul (baby)\".

I heard that it was the other way around, that creature handlers can only have one faction pet out while they have a CH pet out, and that any other class can have 3 faction pets out. Just heard it in passing though, would be nice to know if thats not true or what..
But yeah, SOE arent exactly known for their enlightned ideas or thought out fixes, hehe. I mean, as a master carbineer you do less damage with carbines than if you mix up (same ammount of skill points) with some Bounty Hunter.. Of course, thats due to the broken combat, but Id hardly think that that is such a good defense for dear old SOE ;)
